Engineering Leadership

Aspiring to take on a leadership role is very a positive trait to encourage in people, especially early-career engineers. However, leadership is a very challenging skill to teach. Many people appear to be natural leaders without any formal training, while other people appear to be unteachable in their efforts to become effective leaders.

The fundamental success factor for leading an activity and/or a team rather than simply doing something, is taking accountability for the outcome. Taking accountability differentiates leaders from contributors. Preparing people for leadership roles can be effectively addressed in moderated workshops led by people who have experience in successfully leading teams and organisations themselves.
