Systems Engineering Young Professionals (SEYP)

The SE Young Professionals Community (SEYP) connects newcomers in systems engineering, promotes exchange, and supports personal and professional development. With the support of GfSE, we provide access to knowledge, best practices and a strong network of industry, universities and experienced systems engineers. Through network meetings, mentoring and cooperation, we create a platform for shared learning and growth. Become part of the community and help shape the future of systems engineering as a young professional!

Mentoring-Program

Once a year, mentoring offers the opportunity to learn from GfSE mentors and develop further in a targeted manner. Through the exchange with a mentor, young professionals gain valuable insights, professional impulses and support for their next career step. The current application phase is open until June 05, 2026.
As a mentee, you have the opportunity to develop professionally and personally and make valuable contacts in systems engineering. You should be curious, committed and willing to actively participate in the mentoring program. Take the opportunity to learn from experienced systems engineers, gain new perspectives and network with the community.
Our GfSE mentors are experienced systems engineers who want to pass on their knowledge and practical experience. They support mentees individually, share best practices and offer guidance on technical and professional issues. Are you interested in becoming part of the mentoring team? Then we expect openness, commitment and a willingness to actively support young professionals.

Mentees – learning, growing, networking
“As a recent college graduate, I applied for a mentee position in the program last year, hoping to engage in professional dialogue and gain inspiration for my entry into the workforce. However, the program offered me much more: Through my interactions with the mentors, I was able to refine my professional profile in the field of systems engineering, gain valuable insights, and lay the foundation for my own professional network in the field. What was particularly impactful for me was that the mentoring even shaped my future career path: I found my current job through the program.
For me, participating was therefore a complete success — professionally, personally, and career-wise. I can recommend the mentoring program to anyone looking for guidance, professional exchange, and new perspectives for their career path.”

Mentors - pass on experience, help shape the future
“When the SE Young Professional Mentoring Program launched, I asked myself: Is this even worth it for me? And where am I going to find the time? After three months as a mentor, I can honestly tell you: Yes, it’s worth it! And the time commitment? Totally manageable.
At first, my mentee and I met once a week to really get into the swing of things. Later, we switched to meeting every two weeks. Each meeting lasted about 1.5 hours.
If you add up the meetings, quick research, and answering questions in between, I was looking at just about 5 to 10 hours a month.
What I personally took away from it (besides the good feeling): Sometimes you’re just “blinded by routine.” My mentees, with their unbiased perspective, opened up completely new ways of looking at familiar problems. They often bring up questions we don’t even think about in our day-to-day lives anymore, and they make you completely rethink your own routines. When mentees challenge you in a positive way, you dig even deeper into SE topics to have the best answer ready. This has greatly solidified my own expertise. Plus, the program was the perfect opportunity for me to further develop my business English in a professional context without pressure and to gain intercultural experience.
My takeaway: Those few hours a month will pay off threefold. You’ll stay on top of your field, gain fresh inspiration for your daily work, improve your English, and connect with the people you’ll want to work alongside tomorrow. Where else can you get so close to motivated talent who could soon become our new teammates?"
